Mike Valenti: Lions Fans Need To Start Believing, No Excuse For Team Not To Finish 10-6
DETROIT (CBS Detroit) - Detroit Lions fans have found it hard to break out of a perpetual culture of ineptitude spanning the last 50 years, or so. And with good reason; the Lions have the second-to-most losses in professional football history, behind a Cardinals franchise which dates back to days in Chicago in the 1920s.
A small taste of victory was short-lived when the team won three NFL Championships in six years throughout the 1950s, just before the Super Bowl was indoctrinated in 1967. The franchise and its fans also got an era of hope in the 1990s, making the playoffs six time, but winning just one playoff game.
97.1 The Ticket's Mike Valenti believes that this season, the time of hardship may soon be coming to a close for Lions fans and that the culture of losing should not deter fans from believe that this season, the Lions have put a good product on the field.
"You finally have a good quarterback for the first time," Valenti said on his radio show Friday. "You have a good running back for the first time since Barry Sanders left. You have two red zone threats in Calvin Johnson and Joseph Fauria and you have offensive and defensive lines that are finally showing up. You have, in my opinion, the easiest remaining in the NFL. If they don't get to 10 wins, people should get fired."
Do you agree that this is a start of a new era for the Lions and their fans? Or are they just blowing smoke like in years' past?
