Miguel Cabrera Gets Probation In DUI Case
DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit Tigers' All Star slugger Miguel Cabrera will not be going to jail for drunken driving.
After pleading no contest, the 28-year-old first baseman was sentenced to one year probation. He must also perform 50 hours of community service, pay court costs and a fine up to $500.
Cabrera was arrested by sheriff's deputies who pulled him over last Feb. 16 in Fort Pierce, Florida.
According to a police report, Cabrera smelled of alcohol, had slurred speech and took a swig from a bottle of Scotch in front of a deputy. Police said Cabrera repeatedly refused to cooperate, saying, "Do you know who I am?"
Cabrera refused to take a breath test, deputies said. He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and resisting an officer without violence. Cabrera was also cited for an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle.
