Middle School Crossing Guard Hit By Car
BERKLEY (WWJ) - A school crossing guard is hospitalized, but expected to be OK, after he was hit by a car in Berkley.
It happened Friday morning on Catalpa in front of Anderson Middle School.
The school's principal, Vince Gigliotti, said the guard, a retired public safety officer, was in the middle of the road, having safely crossed one student as another waited at the curb to cross.
Gigliotti told WWJ Newsradio 950's Beth Fisher it was still dark out when the guard was struck.
Police said the man was taken to Beaumont Hospital. They said the driver did stop a the scene and they're investigating.
Gigliotti said a school counselor will be available to any student who need to talk about what happened.
No names have been released.
