Microsoft Opening Somerset Store With Ballmer, Clarkson
TROY -- Microsoft Corp. is going all-out when it comes to Friday's grand opening of its company store at Somerset Collection in Troy.
CEO and Detroit native Steve Ballmer will lead the ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10:30 a.m. Friday.
And recording star Kelly Clarkson will offer a special performance outside the mall at 5 p.m. that day to mark the occasion.
As part of the ribbon-cutting, Ballmer will present $1 million in software grants.
Customers should arrive early to the grand opening ceremonies on Friday for a chance to win giveaways and receive free tickets to the special performance by Clarkson later that day.
The performance will be held across the street from The Somerset Collection in the parking lot on the corner of Coolidge Highway and Cunningham Drive.
The 3,300-square-foot Microsoft store will employ about 45 people.
Microsoft says the store offers a curated assortment of products to fit anyone's needs and budgets, including Windows 8 PCs and tablets like Microsoft Surface, Microsoft Office 365, a variety of Windows Phone 8 devices, Xbox 360 and Kinect for Xbox 360, and other Microsoft devices and accessories.
OEM brands carried include Acer, Asus, HP, Lenovo, Sony and Toshiba.
The store is Microsoft's 42nd in the United States and Canada.
