Michigan Woman Gets 3 To 15 Years In Crash That Killed Teens
SANDUSKY, Mich. (AP) - A 22-year-old eastern Michigan woman will spend at least three years in prison for causing a crash that killed two teen passengers.
Laken Williams of Lexington was sentenced Wednesday in Sanilac County Circuit Court to three to 15 years in prison. She pleaded guilty in early December to two counts of reckless driving causing death in the crash that killed 17-year-old Danielle Torrez and 18-year-old Dakota Moore.
Authorities say Williams was driving 100 mph on a gravel road in October 2014 when she lost control of the vehicle, about 70 miles north of Detroit. The car flipped several times, and Torrez and Moore were ejected.
The Times Herald of Port Huron reports that the judge said he hopes Williams' sentence will send a message to other drivers.
