Michigan Victims of 9/11 Honored on April 30
(CBS Detroit) - September 11, 2001, was a horrific day in U.S. history. Nearly 3,000 people died in the hijackings and attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.
On Monday, April 30, 2018, the Michigan men and women who lost their lives on 9/11 were honored by AMVETS Post 57 and the Louisa St. Clair Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
AMVETS Post 57 is the site of a 9/11 memorial recognizing the event and honoring the victims of this attack. One of the steel beams from the north tower of the World Trade Center was installed on the grounds of their post.
A bronze plaque has been permanently attached to the 9/11 memorial which lists the names of the Michigan men and women who lost their lives in the tragedy of 9/11. The plaque was donated by the Louisa St. Clair Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.
The unveiling ceremony for the new plaque took place on Monday, April 30, 2018, at 5:00 P.M. at the AMVETS Post 57 Parking Lot, 19730 Harper Ave. Harper Woods, Michigan, 48225.
Kay Burt-Willson, Regent with the Michigan Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, delivered the keynote address. Participating Organizations included AMVETS Post 57, Louisa St. Clair Chapter National Society of the American Revolution, Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts of America, and Metro Detroit Police and Fire Pipes and Drums.
