Michigan Takes On S. Dakota St In NCAA Opener
AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (WWJ/AP) - The University of Michigan has received a No. 4 seed in the South Region and will open the NCAA tournament against the South Dakota State Jackrabbits on Thursday in Auburn Hills.
The Wolverines (26-7) are coming off a loss to the Wisconsin Badgers in the second round of the Big Ten tournament.
South Dakota State (25-9 ) received a No. 13 seed in the South Region.
Summit League player of the year Nate Wolters says he's looking forward to facing his Big Ten counterpart.
Wolters will be defending Trey Burke when 12th seed South Dakota State faces Michigan. Wolters says he's had the chance to watch the Wolverines on television a few times and Burke is a good player, averaging 19.2 points per game.
The Jackrabbits guard says he expects a more open game than the defensive Summit League final in which SDSU topped North Dakota State 73-67. He says the game should be fast paced.
Wolters is averaging 22.7 games.
