Michigan State University Sends False Campus Shooter Alert
EAST LANSING (WWJ/AP) - Police at Michigan State University say the school's emergency alert system sent out a false warning of someone firing shots on the East Lansing campus.
Sgt. Dan Munford told the Lansing State Journal that the error happened about 6 p.m. Tuesday when the area received a tornado warning.
He said the alert system mistakenly reported that there was an "active shooter" at Wilson Hall. In fact, there was no active shooter and the message was taken down immediately.
Police say about half the people on the alert system got the tornado warning alert and about half got the active shooter alert. Over 40,000 people are reportedly subscribed to the alert system.
Authorities say they're working to fix the problem, which was blamed on a "computer glitch."
