Fresh off a Rose Bowl win and a Big Ten Championship, Michigan State isn't the favorite to win the Big Ten -- Ohio State is. Sports Illustrated has ranked the Spartans 6 in the preseason rankings.
Michigan State has been ranked in the AP preseason poll seven times since 1991, the highest being 13 which was last season.
According to Sports Illustrated, all the success -- or lack there of -- will rely on Connor Cook:
For Michigan State to repeat as conference champs, the offense must catch up with its defense. Junior quarterback Connor Cook proved his big-game mettle in the Big Ten title game and the Rose Bowl, and he'll have almost all of his top targets back, including senior receiver Tony Lippett (44 catches, 613 yards) and second-year tight end Josiah Price (17 for 210).
