Michigan State Police Looking For Owner Of Money Found In Kroger Parking Lot

BRIGHTON TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - Missing some cold, hard cash? It may be in the custody of Michigan State Police.

Sgt. Mark Thompson with the MSP Brighton Post says they have a lump sum sitting in their property room, just waiting to be claimed by its rightful owner.

He said the currency was turned in by a Good Samaritan last month.

"It was a young woman who was shopping at a Kroger store and located this money in the parking lot," Thompson told WWJ's Lauren Barthold.

The woman tried to turn the money over to the Brighton Township store — on Grand River Ave. near US-23 — but management had not received any reports of lost loot.

State police stepped in to help and are now reaching out to the public to see if they can identify the person who dropped it.

But don't get any sneaky ideas.

"We're not sharing how much money there was or how it was packaged," Thompson said. "The owner of the money will have to describe that to us."

The money was found on Tuesday, July 19.
