Michigan State Hires Dane Fife To Assist Tom Izzo

EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Michigan State coach Tom Izzo has hired Dane Fife as an assistant coach.

The former Indiana Hoosier was 18-12 last season at IPFW in his sixth year as head coach. Fife was hired by school in Fort Wayne, Ind., in 2005, making him Division I basketball's youngest head coach.

Fife's brother, Dugan, played for the Wolverines during the Fab Five era and his father, Dan, also played for Michigan.

Izzo says his relationship with Fife dates to recruiting him at Clarkston High School, adding he's happy to finally get him to Michigan State.

A spot on Izzo's bench opened up when Northern Illinois hired Mark Montgomery last month.
