Michigan State And Michigan To Battle For Macinnes Cup At Joe Louis Arena On Friday

Detroit, MI… The Michigan State Spartans (No. 14) will take on the University of Michigan Wolverines (No. 20) in the championship game of the 47th Annual Great Lakes Invitational (GLI) at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow, December 30, at Joe Louis Arena.

Michigan State defeated tournament hosts Michigan Tech, 3-1, in today's first semifinal matchup to advance to tomorrow's title game. The Spartans are looking for their 13th GLI championship. MichiganState goaltender Drew Palmisano made 45 saves on 46 shots to lead his team to a hard-fought victory over the Huskies today. The Spartans have appeared in 11 of the last 14 GLI Finals, most recently winning the MacInnes Cup in 2009.

The Wolverines upset BostonCollege (No. 3) in today's other semifinal showdown by a final score of 4-2. With the game tied at two apiece in the second period, junior forward A.J. Treais scored in transition to give the Wolverines a lead that they would not relinquish in securing a spot in the GLI Final. Michigan will be looking to repeat as MacInnes Cup champs after winning the title last year. Michigan Tech will face BostonCollege in the tournament's Third Place Game at 4:00 p.m. on Friday at The Joe.
