Michigan State Adding Basketball History Wing At Arena
EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Michigan State's basketball arena is getting a $50 million upgrade, which will include an addition to promote the history of the men's and women's teams.
A strength-and-conditioning center named for former MSU star Draymond Green will be built below the Hall of Basketball History at the Breslin Student Events Center. Former Spartans playing pro basketball will have a locker room for their use during the offseason.
Coach Tom Izzo predicts "jaws will drop" when fans see the history wing.
Food stands, bathrooms, entrances and parking lots will also be improved at the arena. MSU trustees approved the project Friday.
The athletics department will raise $20 million. The balance, $30 million, will be covered by a $3-per-credit-hour fee that began in 1987 to build the arena and still remains in place.
