Michigan St. Beats Michigan Tech 3-1

DETROIT (AP) — Michigan State goalie Drew Palmisano made 45 saves to lead the Spartans to a 3-1 win over Michigan Tech on Thursday in the first round of the Great Lakes Invitational men's college hockey tournament.

The 14th-ranked Spartans (11-6-2) have won 14 of the last 15 games against Michigan Tech (9-10-1). They will play in the tournament championship game on Friday.

Michigan State last won the GLI title in 2009.

The Huskies outshot Michigan State 46-26. Palmisano made a game-high 16 saves in the second period.

Greg Wolfe, Chris Forfar and Brett Perlini scored for Michigan State. Ryan Furne scored for the Huskies, who will play for third place.

Josh Robinson made 23 saves for Michigan Tech.
