Michigan Soldiers To Receive Family Updates From Facebook
DETROIT (WWJ) - Some 171 members of a Michigan National Guard unit will be receiving Facebook updates from home while they're in Afghanistan for the next year, but it won't be in the usual way.
The men & women of the 17-75th Military Police Company, of Pontiac, won't be logging onto Facebook while they're living in tents in Afghanistan, but they will receive 12-page full color Facebook updates from family & friends, thanks to Detroit company PostEgram.
Comapny CEO, Judy Davids, says the soldiers will receive their first newsletter in early April.
"I think everybody thinks that everybody's on line and has access to the internet, but it couldn't be further from the truth. There's a big, be it the military or be it your grandma or be it somebody that you know that's on a mission in a third world country with a church, there's a lot of people that are disconnected and they miss out. They miss out on all the cute pictures and updates," says Davids.
PostEgram CEO, Judy Davids, says the unit will receive the newsletters once a month while they're in Afghanistan . She says it usually costs $5 dollars a month, but Quicken Loans is picking up the tab for this, saving the military families the cost.
