'Michigan Matters' Focus: From Flint's Water Crisis To Matters Of The Heart
With the lead-tainted water crisis continuing to unfold the "Michigan Matters" roundtable dived into dissecting the saga.
"It's too little, too late," said Denise Ilitch, CEO of Ilitch Enterprises, when asked about Gov. Rick Snyder's more aggressive stance on confronting the crisis in recent weeks.
Cliff Russell, former public relations adviser to Detroit Mayors Dave Bing and Dennis Archer and host of "Speak Up Detroit" on WCHB, said Snyder should be removed from office as he was in charge as the crisis played out.
Best selling author ("Jimmy Hoffa called my Mom a Bitch") and public relations expert Jason Vines talked about the long term nature of what happened in Flint.
Also, with February being Heart Health month, the show also included a conversation with experts about heart health.
Interventional Cardiologist William W. O'Neill, director of the Center for Structural Heart Disease at Henry Ford Hospital, talked about a new device to help those suffering massive heart damage.
Cardiologist Deirdre Mattina, director of the new Women's Heart Center, part of the Edith & Benson Ford Heart & Vascular Institute at Henry Ford Hospital, also discussed women's heart health and a new program at their facility.
And Melisssa Thrasher, Communications Director of the American Heart Association-Midwest Affiliate, discussed what people can do to help keep their hearts healthier.
She also talked about the AHA's Go Red For Women Luncheon held on Friday, Feb 12 at the Detroit Marriot at the Renaissance Center. The keynote speaker is actress Kim Coles.
