Michigan Man Gets 12 Years In Child Sex Case
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WWJ/AP) - A Michigan man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for traveling to West Virginia to have sex with a 12-year-old girl whom he met online.
According to U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin, 34-year-old Ashlee C. Liebert of Whitmore Lake, Michigan, was sentenced Monday in U.S. District Court in Huntington.
Liebert pleaded guilty last October to traveling in interstate commerce with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct with a minor.
Goodwin said in a media release that, during a five-month period starting in November 2011, Liebert had numerous conversations with the girl — both online and over the phone — that were sexual in nature. The two also exchanged sexually explicit photos, Goodwin said.
Putnam County sheriff's officers found the pair inside Liebert's vehicle parked in Buffalo in March 2012.
Goodwin said a police search of Liebert's home the same day turned up more than 600 images and videos of child pornography on several computers.
Liebert also was sentenced to 20 years of supervised release following his incarceration.
