Michigan Lawmaker Criticized For Issuing 'Agenda Alert' After Gay Journalist Is Promoted
MIDLAND (WWJ) -- A mid-Michigan lawmaker is being criticized on social media after he "alerted" his followers to the promotion of a gay journalist at a Michigan newspaper.
Twitter and Facebook posts from Republican State Representative Gary Glenn -- who represents portions of Bay and Midland Counties -- dealt with the recent promotion of Midland Daily News reporter Tony Lascari to News Editor.
Sharing what he called an "Agenda Alert," Glenn posted that Lascari is a married gay man "who lives in Midland with his husband."
"I am aware of Representative Glenn issuing an agenda alert to let his supporters know about my marital status," Lascari said. "I welcome him to contact me to speak any time on any topic. Beyond that, I have no comment."
Glenn, who is president of the American Family Association of Michigan and helped write the Michigan's constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage, has received heavy criticism from social media followers.
Glenn denied a request for an interview for this story.
