Michigan Committee Plans Redistricting Hearing
LANSING (AP) - A committee in the Michigan House has scheduled the first in a series of public hearings tied to the state's redistricting process for boundaries of congressional and state legislative districts.
The House Redistricting and Elections Committee scheduled a hearing for Tuesday in Lansing. The meeting was announced Thursday by Rep. Pete Lund, a Republican from Macomb County's Shelby Township.
The hearings are expected to provide background on the overriding concepts in redistricting.
Republicans control the Michigan Legislature and will have the most influence on redrawing district boundaries.
Michigan will lose one of its 15 congressional districts as part of the process because of declining population based on the 2010 Census.
