Michigan Beats Michigan St. 3-2 In OT

DETROIT (AP) — Kevin Clare scored the game-winning goal at 11:44 of overtime Friday as Michigan defeated Michigan State 3-2 in the championship game of the Great Lake Invitational men's college hockey tournament.

Clare snuck in behind the Spartans defense and beat goalie Drew Palmisano for his second goal of the season.

Palmisano made 45 saves, including five in overtime for the Spartans (11-7-2). He made 22 saves in the third period.

Michigan also got goals from Derek DeBlois and Kevin Lynch in winning its 15th title.

Lynch sent the game into overtime with just one minute left in the third period.

After a scoreless first period, Michigan State took a 2-1 lead in the second on goals by Tanner Sorenson and Brett Perlini. Perlini's goal at 12:31 of the period snapped a 1-1 tie created by DeBlois' goal for Michigan at 10:11 of the period.

Shawn Hunwick made 23 saves for the Wolverines, including four in overtime.
