U-M Basketball Recruit Improving After Plane Crash
DETROIT (WWJ) - The National Transportation Safety Board has completed its report on the June 24 plane crash in Northern Michigan that killed two people and injured University of Michigan Basketball recruit, Austin Hatch.
WWJ Newsradio 950's Marie Osborne reported that 46-year-old Dr. Steven Hatch and his 44-year-old wife Kim were killed when the single engine plane they were riding in crashed just before landing at the Charlevoix Airport.
Hatch's son, Austin, was severely injured from Friday's crash and is still recuperating according to the report.
The flight originated in Fort Wayne, Indiana and the report found that Dr. Hatch had called the airport to describe his approach. Within minutes, the plane's nose pitched up, then the plane crashed into a garage. According to the report, no one was to blame for the crash.
This was the second plane crash that Austin survived. Dr. Hatch was at the controls of a plane that crashed in 2003 that killed his mother and two siblings.
