Michigan Anglers Take Advantage Of Annual 'Sturgeon Moon'
DETROIT (CBSDETROIT) - Have you noticed the moon? It's a blue moon, but as WWJ's Russ McNamara tells us, this blue moon has special meaning to anglers in Michigan.
The annual August full moon is also called the sturgeon moon because it's believed the giant fish are most easily caught during the full moon period.
Of course, you may have a hard time finding a sturgeon in Michigan's Great Lakes. It's considered threatened. There are very specific regulations regarding sturgeon and when you can catch them.
Depending on the time of year and the lake ... the state mandates "catch and release" when it comes to sturgeon.
Sturgeon are hard to miss. They can live 100 years and can weigh as much as 200 pounds.
