Michigan AG: 2 Abortion Clinics In Suit Will Close
LANSING (WWJ/AP) - Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette says his lawsuit has led to the permanent closure of abortion clinics in Saginaw and suburban Lansing.
Schuette's office filed a complaint in Eaton County Circuit Court on Nov. 7 seeking to dissolve Health Care Clinic Inc. in Eaton County's Delta Township and Women's Choice Clinic Inc. in Saginaw.
His office says an investigation included evidence of improper medical records disposal at the two clinics owned by Richard Remund. Schuette also said at least half of procedures performed at the clinics were abortions, which if true would mean the clinics would face more stringent regulations.
Schuette says a consent order approved in court Monday provides for the clinics to close permanently. He says the clinics' operators also are barred from opening other abortion clinics.
In October, Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder signed into law a state ban on a late-term abortion procedure already prohibited under federal law. Read more, here.
