Mich. Trucker Pleads Guilty To Weapon Charge In NY
CHILI, N.Y. (WWJ/AP) - Authorities say a trucker from Michigan who had been accused of abducting a missing Illinois woman has pleaded guilty to a weapon charge in upstate New York.
A spokesman for the Monroe County District Attorney's Office says 41-year-old Dale Alan Houchins of Northville, Mich., admitted to fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon in a plea deal with prosecutors last month. In exchange for his guilty plea, charges of first-degree criminal sex act and first-degree unlawful imprisonment were dropped.
Houchins was arrested in April after police went to the town of Chili, N.Y. and found the 22-year-old woman and two handguns in his truck.
Authorities said the two met online and at first engaged in a consensual sexual relationship, but that changed. According to police, Houchins held the woman against her will, threatened her life and forced her to perform sexual acts.
Houchins will be sentenced Aug. 20 to three years of probation that initially includes several months in a "shock" incarceration facility.
