Mich. Teen Takes Down 448-Pound Black Bear
A 17-year-old Battle Creek-area girl has begun her big game hunting career with a bang, bagging a 448-pound black bear from 16 yards away with a bow and arrow.
Jessica Olmstead shot the bear that was more than twice her size during a hunting trip last month in Oba, Ontario. She used a Matthews Passion bow and arrow set designed for women.
The Harper Creek High School senior tells the Battle Creek Enquirer for a story published Tuesday that she loves hunting and whenever she sees a bear, she just wants to go at it.
Her father, Tim, says Olmstead "tracked the bear, killed it, and gutted it like a pro - like she's been doing it for years.''
