Mich. Man Charged In Fatal Wrong-Way Crash On I-75 In Ohio
TOLEDO (WWJ/AP) - A southeastern Michigan man has been indicted in Ohio for a wrong-way crash on I-75 that killed a 26-year-old man on Christmas Day.
A Lucas County grand jury on Wednesday indicted 41-year-old Adam Tunison, a LaSalle, Mich. resident, on two counts of aggravated vehicular homicide in the death of Juan Garcia Jr.
The indictment accuses Tunison of reckless and drunken driving when his car crashed head-on into Garcia's car on I-75 near mile marker 209 in north Toledo.
According to police, Tunison was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes around 3:05 a.m. Dec. 25 when the crash happened. Garcia was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators declined to provide results of tests measuring Tunison's blood alcohol content after the accident, but said two samples both exceeded the legal limit of .08 for drunk driving in Ohio.
According to reports, Tunison didn't have an Ohio or Michigan driver's license. His last valid operator's license was apparently issued in California.
Relatives said Garcia was returning to his Toledo apartment, where he planned to have his family for Christmas dinner, after attending at Midnight Mass with a friend in Michigan when he was killed, The Toledo Blade reported.
