Mich. Dems To Ask For Gas Price Investigation
LANSING (WWJ) -- With gas prices in Michigan the highest in the continental United States, state House Democrats are calling for an investigation.
WWJ Lansing Bureau Chief Tim Skubick says there's probably not much that lawmakers can do, but the Democrats, on Tuesday, will ask the state attorney general to investigate to see if there's any price gouging going on and to find out what's going on in the marketplace.
Skubick says this has happened before -- only once in state history has a governor stepped in and actually gotten the prices lowered and that was Jennifer Granholm when a number of years ago when Marathon, over a holiday weekend, actually lowered gas prices.
However, Skubick reports this new effort is probably not going to do much to help what's at the pump, as the marketplace will probably have to do it. Everybody in this state has their fingers crossed that the market will start doing it sooner than later.
House Democratic Leader Tim Greimel (D-Auburn Hills) and state Representatives Collene Lamonte (D-Montague) and Brandon Dillon (D-Grand Rapids) are leading the effort, holding a press conference on Tuesday afternoon at the State Capitol Building.
