Mich. AG Files Charges In Foreclosure Fraud Case
LANSING (WWJ/AP) - State authorities are accusing a Detroit-area man of fleecing people out of $800,000 by posing as someone who could modify their mortgages.
The Michigan attorney general's office says Rickey White told people that he would negotiate with lenders, but he's accused of doing nothing while charging fees. He and his Southfield business are charged with running a criminal enterprise and false pretenses.
Attorney General Bill Schuette said victims trying to stay above water have been pushed under water. White could not be reached for comment Wednesday. A phone number listed for him in Westland was disconnected.
Schuette said people fearing foreclosure can get free advice from the state at 866-946-7432.
