Metro Detroit's Jewish Book Fair Kicks Off
OAK PARK (WWJ) - Metro Detroit's 60th Annual Jewish Book Fair kicks off Wednesday and runs through next week at the Jewish Community Center in both West Bloomfield and Oak Park.
Event organizer Heidi Budaj said there are more than just books for kids and adults, young and old.
"We have everything from family programs and story reading for children to books about the Holocaust, to books about the presidential debates," Budaj said.
Over 70 authors are scheduled to appear at the event, which runs through Nov. 13.
"We have Jim Lehrer coming in to speak about his book about the presidential debates and what goes on behind the scenes. We have Peter Godwin coming in to talk about his book, The Fear, which tells us about what's happening in Zimbabwe under the dictator Robert Mugabe. We have Hal Rubenstein coming in to talk about 100 unforgettable dresses, iconic dresses throughout the ages. So, there really is something for everybody at the book fair," Budaj said.
In addition to the speakers, the book fair will include a Chaldean cooking demonstration, a local author reception, a store with more than 10,000 titles and a film, held in the West Bloomfield JCC's new Berman Center for the Performing Arts. Most events are free and open to the public.
The country's oldest and largest Jewish book fair, the event will include presentations at both JCC campuses, 6600 W. Maple Road in West Bloomfield and 15110 W. Ten Mile Road in Oak Park.
