Metro Detroit Travelers 'Carry On' As Global Travel Alert Issued For Americans
ROMULUS (WWJ) - A global travel alert for Americans, reportedly based on intercepted chatter between senior Al Quaeda operatives, has travelers at Detroit Metro Airport somewhat concerned.
Richard McClaraty has just returned from Saudi Arabia and he tells WWJ's Beth Fisher that he isn't too worried.
"If it did - I couldn't travel. I'm just careful about what flights and what international flights I take. Usually if you take ... international domestic flights ... you don't have any problem," said McClaraty.
"Well, you just have to trust in God," he said. "We don't know when we are going to die - it's an unannounced date. So if you live in fear, you'll never go anywhere.
You have to register with the ... American Embassy. They send you emails and tell you 'Watch Out' Al Quaeda is in the area or they hear chatter about Al Quaeda - but I never see it."
Other travelers tell WWJ they've heard about the security alerts but are carrying on with their trips overseas and in the U.S.
U.S. officials say they'll close 21 embassies and consulates in the Muslim world this weekend because of a threat of a terrorist attack.
