Metro Detroit Teen Loses Battle With Cancer One Year After Meeting Country Superstar
MADISON HEIGHTS (CBS Detroit) -- A Metro Detroit teen battling brain cancer passed away Wednesday morning, just before her high school graduation. Kayla Kincannon of Madison Heights gained national attention last year when a social media campaign helped her to meet her favorite singer, country superstar Taylor Swift.
After a social media campaign, the Lamphere High school senior was able to meet Swift last year. Kincannon meet with Swift for a private lunch in Nashville in 2013.
School officials say the teen was an inspiration to many and her Facebook page has many messages of loss and reflection. One reads,"Was thinking about you today. Hope heaven is treating you like the queen you were to us, probably even better. Rest in Peace."
Kincannon was diagnosed with brain cancer about two years ago.
The funeral will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Woodlawn Church in Royal Oak.
