Metro Detroit Musician Composes Song With Help From Facebook Friends
DETROIT (WWJ) - One local musician has found that social media is the perfect musical instrument.
"I've got a lot of Facebook friends, probably 3,000 of my closest friends," said jazz musician and Oakland University professor Scott Gwinnell.
"I just said, if you wouldn't mind giving me a note, any note, I'm gonna try and create a composition in the order of the notes that you provided."
In total, Gwinnell told WWJ Newsradio 950's Marie Osborne, he received about 50 notes in a couple of days.

"What was really cool was that the people who gave me notes were everything from family members to friends to world-class musicians," he said.
Gwinnell used every note in the order he received them to compose the song he calls "Friendship."

Gwinnell had to take great care in putting them together rhythmically. "The biggest challenge was creating something that didn't sound just like a loose hogepog of notes," he said.
That wasn't easy, he said, but the process made him a better musician.
