Metro Detroit Commemorates Memorial Day
As we remember our fallen service members, Metro Detroit is celebrating their lives with a weekend of parades and family events.

Greenfield Village's Civil War Remembrance
Greenfield Village will take the opportunity to honor all veterans, with a Memorial Day weekend celebration. More than 450 military re-enactors will recreate an authentic Civil War scene daily. The weekend also will include parades and Civil War era artillery demonstrations. Continues until Monday. More info
Dearborn Memorial Day Parade
The parade, which will especially honor Cold War veterans, begins at 10 a.m. and will travel along Michigan Avenue from Greenfield to Schaefer, ending at Dearborn City Hall. Former Secretary of the Navy Donald Winter, Grand Marshal, will deliver keynote address at remembrance service; joined by 13 Special Marshals.
Novi Memorial Day Parade
The parade begins at 10 a.m. and travels west along Ten Mile Road from Karim Boulevard. Following the parade, there will be a memorial ceremony at Novi Civic Center.
Ferndale's Annual Memorial Day Parade
The family and friends of fallen soldiers who served in Iraq and Afghanistan can honor their loved ones by being a part of the Foot Float. The parade begins at 10 a.m. at the intersection of Livernois Avenue and W. Breckenridge Avenue and heads north. More info
Novi Memorial Day Run
Beginning at 9 a.m., participants can choose to run either a 1-mile, 5K or 10K course in Fuerst Park. Registration fee depends on the length of the race, and all proceeds with benefit the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute. More info
Auburn Hills Downtown Memorial Day Parade
The city's Memorial Day Parade kicks off at 11 a.m. It runs downtown along Adams and Squirrel Roads.
City Of Troy Memorial Day Observance
Troy will host a Memorial Day Remembrance ceremony at 11 a.m. at City Hall, 500 W. Big Beaver Rd.
Sterling Heights 33rd Annual Memorial Day Parade
This year's parade will include a memorial ceremony at 9 a.m. in the courtyard between City Hall 40555 Utica Rd.,and the Police Department. The memorial will honor former Sterling Heights resident SSGT Ergin V. Osman, who was killed in combat in May 2011 in Afghanistan. The parade begins at 10 a.m. in front of City Hall.
St. Mary's Polish Country Fair
This 40-year tradition features carnival rides, games and traditional Polish and American foods. The celebration is family friendly and includes games and activities for kids. In Orchard Lake. More info
