Metro Airport Is Busy But Flights On Time As Expected
ROMULUS (WWJ) - The lines began forming early at Detroit Metro Airport for one of the most popular days of holiday travel of the year.
WWJ's Ron Dewey was at the airport, catching up with some travelers who were planning to fly across the country to be with their families for Thanksgiving Day.
Suzanne Weiss of Waterford, was surprised at the length of the line at the ticket counter at 5 a.m. Wednesday.
"Just like every holiday, everything is so different. Now, we've got this big line. You think you're all prepared and you think that you can just walk in but you can't," said Weiss.
As lines grow both inside and outside McNamara Terminal, the key to getaway day at Metro Airport is to arrive early, have patience and keep it simple.
"Basically I just do two carry-ons and that's it. This one goes over the head and this one goes under the chair and that's it, I'm done," one Tampa-bound traveler said.
While fewer people travel will by air on Thanksgiving, there are also fewer flights by airlines, reducing capacity as airlines try to hold the line on rising costs
The big snag at the airport Wednesday could be outside the terminal curbside, where friends and relatives are playing taxi, wishing farewell to travelers.
So far, no departure delays or cancellations out of Detroit Metro Airport.
