Mental Exam Ordered For Warren Man Charged In Young Girlfriend's Murder

WARREN (WWJ) – A 37-year-old Warren man charged with killing his girlfriend and concealing her body in a plastic drum will undergo a competency exam.

Scott Wobbe's court hearings in Warren have been suspended until his mental health is evaluated, at his lawyer's request.

"We just wanna make sure there's no other issues — mental health issues — that are of concern in this case," said attorney Ray Cassar, adding that he believes that there are.

WWJ's Charlie Langton reported Wobbe "has been on suicide watch" since he's been behind bars and has a history of drug use.

"Because of that he will get a competency exam to see if he's able to assist his attorney," Langton said.

The evaluation process likely will take weeks.

Theresa DeKeyzer, 22, hadn't been seen for much of the summer until she was found dead in September, her decomposed body entombed in cement inside a 55-gallon drum that was bolted to the floor of a utility trailer at a Plymouth Township storage facility.

Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office spokesperson Mary Mazur said obvious measures were taken to cover up evidence in DeKeyzer's death. It took a team more than four hours to free the remains from the drum.

Among the dozens of friends and family members at the courthouse Tuesday was DeKeyzer's sister Leah, who noted today would have been DeKeyzer's twenty-third birthday.

"She was a very loving, positive, caring person, and...we miss her. We're just not whole without her," she said.

Wobbe, who remains held without bond, faces life in prison if convicted on a first degree murder charge. He's also charged with disinterment of a body.
