Men With Sawed-Off Shotgun Threaten To Shoot Up Coney Island
DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit police are looking for two men who apparently threatened to kill diners at a coney island restaurant, all over a missing cellphone.
Sgt. Michael Woody said the incident happened around 5:30 a.m. Thursday at Deluxe Coney Island in the 2900 block of E. 7 Mile, near Conant Street.
Britt, who works at the restaurant, told WWJ's Mike Campbell that two black males walked into the restaurant and said somebody there took their cellphone. She said one of the suspects then lifted his shirt to reveal a sawed-off shotgun, saying if they didn't get the phone back, someone was going to pay. She said the suspects also demanded to see footage from security cameras.
"You know, we weren't trying to get aggressive with him because his friend was standing back there and at any moment could shoot all of us. And we just explained it to him, 'We don't have your phone, there's no way for us to let you see the camera right now so you could see if your phone actually did get taken from here.' He wasn't trying to hear it," she said.
Britt said the suspects eventually fled on foot, but not before making their intentions clear.
"They left with the threat that they better be able to watch the tape today or somebody better have they phone. And he said if he is able to watch the tape and find out and see who took his phone, he was going to kill him," she said.
Woody said the suspects robbed one diner of about $250 before they left, but no one inside the restaurant was injured.
Police are now combing the neighborhoods, trying to find the suspects. The first suspect is described as in his 20's, dressed in all black and armed with a shotgun. The second suspect is described as in his 20's, about 5'7" tall, 150 lbs., dressed in all green with a red baseball cap.
