Men Sentenced In '01 Slaying At Dearborn Credit Union
DEARBORN (WWJ/AP) - Nearly 12 years after a deadly bank robbery in Dearborn, a pair of suspects in the case have been sentenced.
WWJ's Stephanie Davis said 41-year-old Kevin Watson and 42-year-old Norman Duncan, both of Detroit, were given jail sentences for their roled in the 2001 killing of an armored-truck courier.
U.S. District Judge Victoria Roberts on Friday sentenced Watson to life in prison without the possibility of parole, and Norman Duncan to 37 years in prison.
Prosecutors say Watson, Duncan and four other men robbed an armored truck delivering money to the ATM machines at the Dearborn Federal Credit Union.
During the course of the robbery, authorities say armored truck guard 37-year-old Norman Anthony Stephens was shot in the back and killed with shotguns used by the robbers.
The U.S. attorney's office says Watson, Duncan and the others escaped with $204,000 in cash.
Stephens and his wife had six children.
