Men Found Guilty Of Shooting At Hamtramck Women
DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - Two men have been convicted in a shooting incident involving two Hamtramck women whose bodies later were found buried in a Detroit park.
Separate Wayne County Circuit Court juries on Thursday found 25-year-old Brian Lee and 26-year-old Brandon Cain guilty of assault with intent to murder.
The pair was accused of shooting at 18-year-old Abreeya Brown and 22-year-old Ashley Conaway back on Feb. 8 in Detroit.
Arnold Reed, Lee's attorney, said the jury in his client's case "got it wrong." He told The Detroit News that jurors already "had their minds made up" about the case before the trial began.
Cain, Lee and three other men also are charged with murder, kidnapping and torture in the slayings of Brown and Conaway. Their trial is set for Oct. 15.
Nearly three weeks after the shooting, Brown and Conaway were forced into a car trunk at gunpoint on Feb. 28 after being abducted from their home on Andrus Street. Their bodies were found almost a month later in shallow graves in a wooded area near 6 Mile Road and Telegraph in Detroit.
A Wayne County Medical Examiner testified that the women were bound with duct tape and shot in the head at close-range.
Authorities say Conaway may have been targeted for telling police about the shooting prior to their abduction.
