Meijer To Remodel 3 Metro-Detroit Stores
GRAND RAPIDS (WWJ) - Grand Rapids-based Meijer is investing more than $75 million to upgrade several stores in Michigan and Ohio.
Meijer plans to make enhancements to the interior and exterior of the stores, improving indoor and outdoor lighting, heating, refrigeration and the parking lots. The store says, during the remodeling process, it will also introduce newer technology in key areas that will result in reduced energy usage and more energy-efficient stores.
Three metro Detroit stores are slated for improvements. The stores are located at:
- 26 Mile Road in Washington Township (near Romeo)
- Middlebelt Road in Livonia
- Thirteen Mile Road in Madison Heights
"We are pleased to reinforce our commitment to these communities," said Hank Meijer, Co-Chairman and CEO of the company. "Our customers expect high standards from us, and our investment in these stores will ensure they continue to receive our best."
The improvement projects are slated to be completed by the end of the year.
Meijer also plans to open two new stores this year. This includes a 192,000 square foot supercenter in Stevensville, Michigan and the company's third "small format" store, which will be located in Melrose Park, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago.
Meijer says the new stores represent an investment of more than $25 million and will create as many as 400 full- and part-time jobs.
