Meet Marcus Glenn, Artist Behind 56th Annual Grammy Awards Artwork
You might think the Grammys are all about the music, but that's only half true. See another aspect of the awards show with metro Detroit artist Marcus Glenn, the man behind the 56th annual Grammy Awards artwork.
The work is a colorful acrylic on wood mixed media piece titled, "One Nite Outta This World." According to Grammy officials, it will be used as the official artwork for Music's Biggest Night and will be on the cover of the Grammy Awards program book, telecast tickets and promotional poster.
Describing the piece Glenn said, "This particular project, I babied it. The swirls of music. You can almost feel the music spilling out of the gramophone."
When he first learned of the opportunity he thought it was a joke. Recalling a conversation with his Park West Gallery boss he said, "You're playing with us -- aren't you. He said no, this is all true. This is a true story."
Sharing some of the background of the partnership Glenn said, "Because my paintings are so musically inclined -- the Grammys they kinda saw my work 10 years ago and so they kinda started following my career."
At his studio, Glenn shares some aspects of his artistic process, "I'm up to four or five in the morning. When the creative juices hit you -- you can't sleep," he said.
Glenn gave his wife a one-of-a-kind purse to take to the red carpet featuring the Grammys art.
The Grammy Awards can be seen Sunday at 8 p.m. on CBS 62.
