McDonald's Owners Help Send Detroit Students To Camp
DETROIT( WWJ) - Thanks to the generosity of local McDonald's owners and operators, 25 fourth and fifth grade students from Stewart Elementary School in Detroit will be going on a one-week camping excursion at Skyline Camp & Retreat Center in picturesque Almont.
To kick-off the summer and get the youth ready for camp, local McDonald's owners and Don Bosco Hall will host an Official Camp Kick-off event at 1:30 pm on Wednesday at Stewart Elementary. During the event, students will meet camp counselors and receive giveaways.
McDonald's operators are not the only ones supporting the youth, as the Taylor Walmart store is donating 25 sleeping bags for the students.
Some of the students participating in this program have never been camping or experienced any of the interesting camping activities scheduled for their stay away from home.
On their trip, the children will have opportunities to go geocaching, fish, hike, swim and participate in other outdoor activities.
To further enhance this experience, they also will learn responsibility, develop self-confidence and self-worth, build friendships and practice the importance of teamwork.
This is the second year McDonald's has made it possible for inner-city students to enjoy a fun-filled, free camp outing.
