MCC President at White House For Summit

Top educators, students, business and government leaders from around the country will be at the White House today for a summit on community colleges.  Macomb Community College President Jim Jacobs is the only Michigan educator attending the event.  He hopes to come away with more federal support for programs at Macomb aimed at retraining workers and putting more people back to work.

"What we really need to emphasis is getting long-term education with degrees and credentials so that our unemployed people can qualify for some of these better jobs." MCC President Jim Jacobs said.

Jacobs says Macomb hopes to get more federal support for these programs like Allied Health and Advanced Manufacturing, which cost a lot of money. But he says the lack of state resources make additional help from the White House even more essential.

Jacobs says it's an honor to attend the summit, and noted, " We have a successful program in the state of Michigan called 'No Worker Left Behind', that program is heavily dependent on federal funds. Most of the work force development boards including our own in Macomb County have run out of money, so one of the things we are looking for is support for that program."
