Matthew Stafford Checks In With Valenti And Foster
DETROIT (97.1 The Ticket) - Mike Valenti and Terry Foster went head-to-head with Detroit Lions starting quarterback Matthew Stafford on 97.1 The Ticket Monday.
The Lions, with Stafford at the helm, pulled out a last second win in Sunday's game against the St. Louis Ram's.
Stafford threw a 5-yard pass to Kevin Smith with 10 seconds left in the game to lead the Lions to a 27-23 victory.
"I saw that Calvin (Johnson) was double teamed ... and I was going to buy some time," said Stafford. "(I saw) a throw to Kevin ... if he didn't get there I might have thrown it on the ground but he did a good job of leaking out and getting open."
"They were not going to get beat deep, I give my hat off to them," he told Valenti. " They've got talented guys in the secondary, it took us a little while to get it going .. but the guys let it go, kept it moving."
"The guys stuck with me," said Stafford - referring to a dismal first half that saw three interceptions thrown by Stafford, accounting for 13 St. Louis points.
Stafford addressed the mental part of the game when asked about the interceptions; "Just like if they drop a pass it doesn't mean that I'm not going to throw a pass to them the rest of the game."
Bottom line Stafford repeated, "these guys stuck with me, we practice this a lot and the guys believe in it."
