Matt Dery's Daily Update 8-17-11
The Lions Ndamukong Suh sent out a tweet today which hints that he has been fined $20,000 by the NFL for his late hit on Bengals QB Andy Dalton Friday night. ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports he hears that Suh will appeal the fine. Lions are back on the field for an afternoon practice today in Allen Park; they hit the road for Cleveland tomorrow and will play the Browns Friday night in preseason game number 2.
Profootballtalk.com reports that the Lions scheduled to visit with free agent guard and tackle Leonard Davis. The former Pro Bowler who was cut loose by the Cowboys last month as that team had to get under the salary cap.
Crain's Detroit Business reports that both Matthew Stafford and Kyle Vanden Bosch agreed to restructure their contract earlier this summer so the Lions could sign some free agents.
Former Miami football players are coming forward to admit they did receive gifts years ago from jailed booster Nevin Shapiro. The NCAA is now investigating the Hurricanes football program amidst a Yahoo Sports report that over 70 players received benefits from Shapiro and 12 current players on the roster also were highlighted in the report.
Mike Hart now at Eastern Michigan, the former U of M RB has been hired as an assistant coach with the Eagles.
