Matt Dery's Daily Update 3-22-11
Scott Sizemore was supposed to take over for Placido Polanco at 2nd base last season. Now this year he is heading back to Toledo. Tigers make roster cuts this morning and Sizemore is among them. Jim Leyland says Will Rhymes is his starting 2nd baseman right now, he wants to give the left hand hitting Rhymes a shot because he hit 300 at the big league level last year in limited time.
Lions coach Jim Schwartz is in New Orleans for the NFL owners meetings, he says Matthew Stafford is progressing well from his January shoulder surgery but has not started throwing a football yet. Because of the lock out Schwartz cannot talk directly to Stafford but can communicate with his physical therapist as Matt works out in Florida. Schwartz adds that he and the coaching staff are discussing moving DeAndre Levy from middle linebacker to the outside but nothing is etched in stone.
League owners today will vote on moving the kickoff to the 35 yard line, it's not expected to pass, the Lions and Patriots among the teams who have been publicly against it.
