Matt Boyd Recalled From Toledo, Will Start Vs. Oakland On Saturday
OAKLAND, Calif. (CBS Detroit) -- The Detroit Tigers announced on Friday that left-handed started Matt Boyd will join the team from Triple-A Toledo and start against the Oakland Athletics on Saturday.
In Boyd's single appearance for the Tigers this season, he pitched 4 2/3 innings out of the bullpen, giving up two hits and three walks while striking out two batters. He started 10 games for Detroit last season, totaling a 1-4 record and a 6.57 ERA.
Boyd has started eight games for the Mud Hens in 2016, recording a 2.06 ERA and a 1.15 WHIP.
Boyd will start in place of injured ace Jordan Zimmermann, who will miss his turn in the rotation with an injured right groin. No determination has been made about a stint on the disabled list for Zimmermann.
The team will announce a corresponding move on Saturday.
