Maslamani Guilty On All Charges
Ihab Maslamani is facing life in prison. A Macomb County jury has found the 18-year-old accused of carrying out a crime spree that included the gunpoint abduction and killing of a man guilty on all charges.
Jurors deliberated all day Friday, and determined Maslamani was guilty on all 18 charges against him which also included bank robbery, armed robbery, kidnapping, carjacking and felon firearms.
The verdict was read just before 6 p.m.
Maslamani is charged in the August 2009 abduction and slaying of 21-year-old Matt Landry of Chesterfield Township.
Defense lawyer Joseph Kosmala said Maslamani did rob the bank and steal a the car but denies his client killed Landry.
Authorities say Landry was kidnapped at gunpoint in Eastpointe and held four days in a vacant Detroit house before being shot in the head.
Landry's family and police investigators who captured Maslamani was in the courtroom and hugged each other as the guilty verdict was read.
Maslamani faces a mandatory term of life in prison without the chance of parole on the murder charge when sentenced.
Earlier Friday, Kosmala talked with reporters about what his client was like during the proceedings. He said Maslamani behaved much like a "feral child" — he would answer questions and participate in his defense, and then turn around and ask Kosmala "How are we doing?" and "Can I have a piece of candy?"
A second suspect accused in Landry's murder, 17-year-old Robert Taylor, will stand trial later this year.
