Mary Waters Withdraws Guilty Plea
In a surprising move, former State representative Mary Waters has asked to withdraw her guilty plea on tax charges.
This comes after Waters , the former girlfriend of political consultant Sam Riddle, was sentenced to probation earlier this month for filing a fraudulent tax return. The Detroit Free Press reports Waters has asked to withdraw her guilty plea and for a hearing to explain why in a filing in federal court.
Waters pleaded guilty in May to the charge and admitted that she took a Rolex watch for her work for Riddle to gain political backing for the move of a pawn shop.
Riddle, meanwhile, was sentenced to 37 months in prison for bribery and extortion when he worked for former Detroit city councilwoman Monica Conyers.
