Mark Harmon Talks Michigan Football, Gardner Wearing His Dad's Jersey
Most people know Mark Harmon for his role as Agent Gibbs on NCIS, and some people know that he was also a highly recruited QB at UCLA, but did you also know his dad was Tom Harmon the former Michigan Wolverine Heisman Trophy winner?
Harmon stopped by last night's Arsenio Hall Show to talk acting, college football and U of M retiring his dad's jersey last week.
"Dave Brandon of Michigan did a really cool thing last weekend when they played Notre Dame, they brought my dad's retired jersey out of retirement and put it back on the field on a wonderful student athlete named Devin Gardner," Harmon said, adding his dad was an offensive back.
His dad wore No. 98.
"The last time 98 was worn at Michigan was against against Ohio State in 1940, my dad scored five touchdowns, last Saturday night (against Notre Dame) Devin Gardner scored five touchdowns," Harmon said, adding, "I'm proud of that, I'm proud of him ... It's a big deal, he was always proud of Michigan, it's a wonderful thing."
Harmon also revealed he could have taken to the field himself, saying he was scouted to play pro. "I'm working now, and a lot of the guys I played with aren't," he said, adding he made the right choice with acting.
Catch The Arsenio Hall Show weeknights at 11 p.m. on CW50. And don't miss the season premiere of NCIS, Tuesday, September 24th at 8 p.m. on CBS 62.
