Marijuana Dispensary Owners Appeal Major Ruling
MOUNT PLEASANT (AP) - The Michigan Supreme Court has been asked to decide whether the sale of medical marijuana at dispensaries is legal.
The operators of a Mount Pleasant dispensary that was shut down in August want the justices to overturn a decision by the state appeals court. They say they're victims of "blatant judicial activism."'
The appeals court said medical-marijuana users can't distribute the drug to each other if money is involved. The decision was a blow to people who say dispensaries are the only way they can get the drug to relieve health problems. There were hundreds of dispensaries at the time.
The Supreme Court could decide to hear the appeal or simply reject it. The court already has accepted appeals involving other parts of the 2008 medical-marijuana law.
